Prenatal Screenings at Gennet: For Your Peace of Mind and Your Baby's Health

The journey through pregnancy is full of anticipation and joy. Prenatal screenings are an important guide on this path—they help us monitor your baby's healthy development from the very first weeks while reassuring you that everything is progressing as it should. The goal of these non-invasive and safe examinations is the early identification of potential risks, such as genetic disorders or developmental defects.

At our Gennet clinics in Prague and Liberec, we provide comprehensive prenatal care at the highest level so that you can enjoy your pregnancy with maximum peace of mind.

Why Choose Gennet for Your Prenatal Screening?

Top-tier Expertise

Our doctors are certified specialists in prenatal diagnostics, including international certification from the Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) London for performing first-trimester screenings and super-consultancy ultrasound examinations throughout prenatal care.

Advanced Imaging Technology

The premium ultrasound machines, high-frequency probes, and cutting-edge software used at our clinics offer a wide range of possibilities for high-definition imaging of your baby.

Proprietary NIPT Test: PRENASCAN

We offer one of the most accurate non-invasive prenatal tests on the market. Using a sample of the mother's blood, it reliably detects the risk of Down, Edwards, and Patau syndromes and can determine the biological sex of the fetus.

Dedicated Time for Your Care

Extended appointment slots allow for a complete anatomical check, even if your baby isn't cooperating in the ideal position.

All-in-One Comprehensive Care

If the screening identifies any risks, our team of clinical geneticists is immediately available to consult with you and recommend next steps, including invasive diagnostics.

Gennet Screening Guide: What to Expect Each Trimester?

We’ll guide you through your pregnancy every step of the way.

1st Trimester (Weeks 12–14): The First Major Milestone
2nd Trimester (Weeks 20–22): Detailed Fetal Morphology
3rd Trimester (Weeks 30–32): Monitoring Fetal Growth and Well-being

1st Trimester (Weeks 12–14): The First Major Milestone

This is the most critical examination for the early detection of common chromosomal abnormalities.

  • FMF Combined Screening: A combination of detailed ultrasound (measuring nuchal translucency – NT and other markers) and biochemical analysis of the mother's blood. These results allow us to determine the precise risk of genetic defects.

  • 1st Trimester Fetal Morphology: By the end of the first trimester, all organs are already developed, allowing us to detect up to 50% of major developmental defects at this early stage.

  • Preeclampsia Screening: This includes assessing the risk of preeclampsia, a serious pregnancy complication. If an increased risk is identified, effective preventive treatment will be recommended.

  • PRENASCAN (NIPT): Available from week 10. This highly accurate blood test is an excellent choice for maximum certainty or as a supplementary examination.

2nd Trimester (Weeks 20–22): Detailed Fetal Morphology

This stage involves a comprehensive ultrasound focusing on a detailed check of all the baby's organs (heart, brain, kidneys, limbs, etc.). We also assess the position of the placenta and the volume of amniotic fluid. The goal is to rule out congenital developmental defects and genetic syndromes.

3rd Trimester (Weeks 30–32): Monitoring Fetal Growth and Well-being

During this period, we primarily monitor fetal growth using ultrasound biometry. We assess the position of the placenta and evaluate its function through Doppler flow parameters. Additionally, we check the proper function and development of vital organs, particularly the brain, heart, and kidneys, to ensure the baby is well-nourished and thriving.

More Accurate Results

Studies show that the detection rate of major developmental defects is up to 30% higher in specialized fetal medicine centers compared to standard outpatient clinics.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are you looking for the highest standard of care and peace of mind during your pregnancy? Put your trust in the experts at Gennet. We are here for you at our clinics in Prague and Liberec.

Are all pregnancy screenings mandatory?
  • Pregnancy screenings

No, these are recommended tests. You always have the right to decide which tests to undergo. Our doctors will explain the benefits of each one for you so you can make an informed decision.

What happens if the screening shows an increased risk?
  • Pregnancy screenings

First, remain confident. Increased risk is not a diagnosis. Our specialist will explain everything and will immediately offer a consultation with our clinical geneticist. We will suggest the next steps, typically a more precise non-invasive test (PRENASCAN) or a diagnostic [invasive procedure (amniocentesis/CVS) – LINK].

Can screening detect all problems?
  • Pregnancy screenings

Screening tests identify the risk of the most common and serious abnormalities with very high accuracy. However, they cannot detect every possible issue. Their main purpose is to pinpoint pregnancies that may need further testing, treatment, or specialized follow-up care.
