Paternity Testing

Paternity testing is used to confirm or exclude biological paternity based on DNA analysis. The test is performed using blood or another biological sample from the mother, the presumed father and the child. By comparing genetic markers stored in DNA, it is possible to determine with a high degree of accuracy whether the man is the biological father of the child.

What Are the Paternity Testing Options

Consensual Paternity Test

This test is performed with the consent of the mother and the presumed father. The results are intended for personal information only and cannot be used for legal purposes.

Expert Paternity Test Based on a Court Order

In this case, samples are collected in the presence of our court appointed expert and the results are accompanied by an expert opinion.

This test can be used for legal purposes, for example in court proceedings to determine paternity.

Non-Invasive Paternity Test During Pregnancy

This test can be performed from the 11th week of pregnancy. For the test, only a blood sample from the mother and a buccal swab from the presumed father are collected, with the results obtained by analysing fetal DNA present in the mother’s bloodstream.

The test can only be performed in singleton pregnancies.

Test Accuracy

Paternity is confirmed with a probability of more than 99.9%.

Paternity is excluded with 100% certainty.

How Much Does Paternity Testing Cost?

The price depends on the type of test. See the price list for more details.

  • Additional genetic tests

For most tests, a referral from your physician to a genetic consultation is recommended. The clinical geneticist will then determine the appropriate indication.
