Freezing high-quality embryos (embryobanking) is a proven way to preserve your chance of a future family – without the need for repeated hormonal stimulation and further egg retrieval. This modern method gives you time, freedom and peace of mind. It allows you to return to treatment when you feel ready, knowing that your best embryos are waiting safely for you.
At Gennet clinics in Prague and Liberec we use the most modern technologies to ensure maximum safety and success of the entire process.
We will guide you through the entire journey step by step.
After fertilisation of the eggs we monitor their development in the laboratory. Embryos that reach high quality (usually at the blastocyst stage on day 5 of development) and are not used for fresh transfer are ideal candidates for freezing. Our experienced embryologist gently freezes them using the vitrification method.
Your frozen embryos are stored in special cryocontainers with liquid nitrogen at a stable temperature of –196 °C. In this state they can safely wait for many years for the right moment.
Once you decide to continue treatment, we will schedule your frozen embryo transfer (FET). Preparation involves brief and gentle hormonal support for optimal growth of the uterine lining, which increases the chance of successful embryo implantation. On the precisely set day and time the embryologist at the Gennet laboratory thaws the embryo.
The transfer itself is a quick and painless procedure carried out on an outpatient basis without general anaesthesia. Under ultrasound guidance the doctor carefully inserts the thawed embryo through a thin catheter directly into the uterus. We are committed to the safety and health of both mother and child; therefore, to minimise the risk of multiple pregnancy we standardly transfer one embryo.
After the transfer you will take the hormone progesterone (most often in the form of tablets or suppositories), which prepares the uterine lining for embryo implantation and helps maintain the early pregnancy. Approximately 12–14 days after FET we will invite you for a blood test. Based on the hCG hormone level this reliably confirms whether the treatment was successful.
The costs of this process are significantly lower than those of a complete new IVF cycle.
Detailed price information is available in our price list. We will always inform you transparently about all costs.
A one-off fee is charged for the freezing (vitrification) itself. An annual fee is then paid for storage of the embryos in our cryobank.
The price of an FET cycle includes preparation of the uterine lining, laboratory work (thawing) and the transfer itself.
Do you have more questions about embryo freezing or the FET process? Our team at Gennet Prague and Liberec is here for you.
At a temperature of –196 °C all biological processes stop. Embryos can therefore be safely stored for many years without any effect on their quality.
No. Thanks to the modern vitrification method, the success rate of FET cycles today is fully comparable to – and in some cases even slightly higher than – that of fresh embryo transfers.
No, absolutely not. In a single FET one embryo is typically transferred. The others remain safely stored for a possible further attempt or for a sibling in the future.
