IUI - intrauterine Insemination

IUI - intrauterine Insemination IVF IVM Cryopreservation of embryo - KET

The IUI means the introduction of sperms by means of a thin plastic catheter through the cervix into the cavum uterum.

It is performed in such a case when the sperms show pathological features (there is a small number of sperms in the ejaculate, the sperms have a low mobility...), or in the case of a negative postcoital test (a higher impermeability of mucin of the cervix). The condition is minimally one permeable Fallopian tube.

The insemination can be performed in the natural cycle of ovulation that is without hormonal stimulation, or in case of defects of ovulation the woman takes stimulation medicaments before the IUI (most often clomifencitrates - Clostilbegyt, Clomhexal, Serophene...)

The effort of the doctors is to create so many follicles so as to increase the probability of successful fertilisation, but at the same time to such an extent as to prevent the risk of multiple pregnancy.

The IUI is the most common and a less invasive form of the assisted reproduction, whose success is ca. 10-15%.

The IUI is an indolent performance, which is carried out as outpatient one. Usually, the partner comes to CAR one hour earlier than the woman for delivery of the sperm sample. It is possible to bring the sperm from home as well; however, the transport must not take longer than 1 hour, and the sperm must be kept in dark at the body temperature for the whole time. If possible, it is more comfortable to deliver the sample directly at the CAR.

An embryologist specially modifies the sperm (it takes about 1 hour) and loads the sperm into a catheter, by which it is introduced into the uterus.

Treatment course in case of IUI
At the beginning of the menstruation cycle (1 st day of the MC) you phone to the CAR and notify of the beginning of your cycle. In principle on 3 rd day of the MC you start with hormonal stimulation. Between 8 th – 9 th day of the cycle you arrange an appointment for an ultrasound check. According to your reaction to the stimulation, the doctor will plan the exact date of insemination and the time of application of HCG, which will accelerate the maturation of follicles and ovulation.

The IUI is performed in gynaecological position with a thin plastic catheter. The performance is of an outpatient type, after its completion it is possible to go home immediately. Disability of work is not necessary.

Regime after IUI
After the IUI you take Utrogestan, or another preparation for support of the corpus luteum, until the demonstration of pregnancy. Usually, one globule in the morning and one in the evening (1-0-1) into the vagina.
